The first thing to consider when planning children’s parties is the age of the children. Small children actually prefer having parties with relatives and friends with whom they are very comfortable. This can actually be an advantage, if you are working on a tight budget. Very small children are happy with inexpensive gifts, and often require only the boxes in which their toys came, to be entertained. Older children can be a bit more of a challenge, but no matter the age, a little planning and creativity will go a long way in making your children’s parties the talk of the town!
Having the Party at Home or on the Town
If you are partying on a budget, your first impulse may be to have your children’s party at home. Just be sure you figure in all costs, get party rates from different places, and compare before you decide. Most important, consider the personality of the party boy or girl. If your child is a social butterfly, an intimate party with one or two friends, could leave them bored to tears. If, on the other hand, your child is uncomfortable in large crowds, a small pajama party could be just the ticket.
Invitations, Planning, and Details
Once you have narrowed it down, by comparing prices and deciding what your child would most enjoy, the hard part of planning your children’s birthday party is done, and now it is time for some FUN!
Invitations do not have to be elaborate, but one thing I don’t recommend is that the invitations be hand delivered by your child to their friends. Invitations get lost, misplaced, or forgotten about until the last minute, leaving you hanging about how many guests to plan for. Either mail the invitations, or deliver them to the parents yourself. Most children love to receive mail, so mailing is always a good choice. A great, inexpensive party invitation you can make is to inflate a balloon, preferably a dark colored one, and write the invitation with a gel glitter pen, then let the air out. Enclose a note for Mom or Dad, instructing their child to blow up the balloon to see when and where the party will be. It is a good idea to include any special instructions on the note to the parents. They will need to know if gifts are to be exchanged; the exact pick up and drop off time, as well as directions to the party location.
Whether you decide to throw a T-ball or Basketball game party, on the T-ball field, or the basketball courts, or have a party at the local pizza place, just a little planning goes a long way to making your children’s party a huge success!
Children's Parties

Childrens parties can have cartoon theme characters, sports themes, or a traditional theme like western, luau, or dance.
